I lived in Chicago for thirty years, & was pretty good at ignoring the lake. I love it deeply & its presence, but whenever I made the pilgrimage to its shore, I knew I would never be "good enough" (maybe that's why I avoided it):

I do miss Lake Michigan. I lived two blocks away, in RP, and walked over almost every day. A balm, as well as stimulating. I can say that the James River has similar effects, so I'm grateful.

I'm at Fargo and the lake, so the walk isn't far! But I know exactly what you mean. The James River, you must be in Richmond VA! I am heading in that direction in early September to walk the Banneker boundary stones of Washington, DC as a sort of secular pilgrimage...

So strange--several of these photos came from a long walk yesterday, and I took a good one of the entrance to Bobb and McCulloch as my dog took a great interest in it. I remember back in the early 80s they did a "fundraising" to put a dome over Bobb & McCulloch so there could be indoor frisbee during the winter...
